Happy Birthday - for the soccer fan!

I made this card for my nephew who turned 12. Where does the time go? I can't believe he's almost a teenager. A few simple dies and tools from Perfect Paper Crafting made this card a breeze! I first cut my base card out of black heavy yardstick using MFT's Happy Die. I love the look of these cut away words and I'm hooked on using these dies! I cut out the soccer panels with MFT's Horizontal Stitched panels and added a 1/16" ivory border using my Perfect Layer Rulers.

I die cut the Happy word again and used the metal edge of my Perfect Ruler to cut the card stock away from the letters. Using the metal edge of the ruler and a nice sharp exact knife give you a clean cut.

Now my letters are all free! I'll use these to pop up as a second layer on the card.

Here's the card front. You can see I've added black foam pieces to the letters. I've doubled up the letters to give the card more stability in the area of the letters.

You can see the double layers of letters here. The foam tape adds dimension but also helps reinforce the letters so they are nice and sturdy.

Next, I used my Perfect Ruler again to cleanly cut away just a strip from the Graphic 45 paper. Using my grid mat helps to make sure I'm exactly precise when cutting a small strip and the self healing surface is excellent.

This is the inside liner for the card. And as always -- if you have layers on the front of the card... add them on the inside too for a polished look! Using a grid mat is super helpful in lining things up nice and straight.

Here's the inside of the card. I added a die cut "12" on the inside. I love how the small 1/16" layers  frame the liner and make it really pop off the black.

No card is complete anymore without a touch of Wink of Stella! I used the Black Wink of Stella on top of the black card stock. The black on black gives it a completely different shimmer than using the regular Cleae Stella.

I used a Birthday Word from Impression Obsession. I die cut the word three times and glued them together to give it more dimension.... and of course a little more Wink of Stella! Finished card is an A2.

It's starting to feel like summer here in Atlanta... heading to the beach sounds really nice! I thought I'd build a little sand castle for today's challenge. We've got new products to share too and I used one of the new clear stamp sets, Sailing into the Sunset, on my card today. This is a great set for some summer cards or accents on those beach scrapbook pages.

IO just introduced some great new dies, which you can see here, several of them are All in One Layering Frame Die sets. I used the new All-in-One Squares Set which has great little stitched edges. I cut the little sandcastle multiple times, just building it out to the right size for my frame.

I stamped the border from the Sailing into the Sunset Clear Set in Memento's Team Zeal. I added a little Copic E43 around the border of the word frames. I used a Cat's Eye Chestnut Roan inked to scruff up the edges. Finished card is 5" Square.

Here's the blog roll for this week:
Isha Gupta... our May Guest Designer

I went with a baby girl card for this week and incorporated a little extra fold and a pocket to meet the challenge details. I used the Congratulations and the Small Heart Die cuts to decorate the front and only partially cut them up to the fold line so that when the card swings open the pieces pop out. This is super easy... just line your top cutting plate up with the edge of the fold, so that it only cuts up to the fold line. Using a Magnetic Cutting plate is very helpful so that your dies stay in the right spot.

I cut the Congratulations word an additional two times glueing them all together so that it would be sturdy when opening and closing. Behind the word and heart you can see where the card base was cut up to the fold only. I created a pocket using the Scallop Edge Die from the Heart Scroll Valance Die Set, adding the small flowers that cut out from the Baby Bootie. A perfect place to tuck in a note or a gift card.

I love the little tiny scallops around the Mini Scroll Heart solid layer, so tiny and dainty! I cut the pink scroll heart multiple times, stacking them together to give it the look of a piece of chipboard instead of just a thin layer of paper. I topped it off with the little bow from the Baby Bootie Die. In the corners of the last panel I added the little corner accents that are in the Floral Frame Die Set.

The card is 4 1/4" x 5" when folded. To create the card base cut a panel to 5"x 8 1/2", then score at 2 1/8" and again at 4 1/4" to create the Z fold. I sparkled it up using a Wink of Stella Clear pen on the Congratulations, bow, corner accents and the pink scroll heart.... looks sugary in person! I hate that Stella doesn't like to show up in the pics!

Summer in Georgia means some hot sunshine! I inked up this Happy Sunshine and the matching background, Picnic Plaid

I stamped the sun twice and cut up the second in pieces to pop up. The sentiment is perfect for an anytime hello card. A few layers, embossing folder and some foam tape add dimension to the card front. I added the square shaker frame so that the edges stuck out beyond my skinny card. Makes it a little more interesting when the lines are not all straight.

On the inside, I stamped the sunshine again and added a Hello die cut. Finished card is 3 1/2" x 5 1/2".

Serendipity Stamps Challenge #43 - My Girl

Our challenge this week is "My Girl" for Serendipity Stamps. Join us and play along for a chance to win a gift certificate and do a little shopping! Just make something with a feminine feel to it and use Serendipity Stamps! Find all the details on the Serendipity Challenge Blog.

Check out the team today:

Our challenge this week was to create something feminine with the twist of using pieces of die cuts. Instead of going with pinks and girly colors, I went with white and ivory.  I love the soft look of this and think it always comes off as elegant in almost any theme.

Part of our challenge was to use a "partial" die cut. I used the flowers from the Floral Frame to stud the outside of the frame die.

I only used adhesive down the center of the butterflies, curving the wings bit just using my fingers. I deliberately stacked them a little off center to help show the layers.

On the inside I added a ribbon and the pretty Mother's Day Script.

I loved this hammock image... what a great image for a Father's Day card, Happy Retirement card or just a fun Hello! It's a happy image that can be colored or paper pieced in any color scheme.

I cut the image out with Circle Dies from Little B and then colored it up with my Copics. Trees and grass are easy colors just using little blots of color with the tip of your pen. I added a few little flicks to the grassy area.

I added the new Relax Die on the inside liner. Finished card is 5" Square.
