Little Elf Finn

This image is drawn by Mo Manning, a favorite artist of mine! Penny Black made it in to a stamp and it has been sitting on my desk for a long while... finally I got a chance to ink it up! I stepped out the coloring below...

I stamped the image and cut it out using Spellbinder's Grand Circles. Before I removed it from the die, I airbrushed around the edges using BG11 and I added the piercing around the inside of the die's edge.

You can see the image sticks out a bit from the pierced border. where it does I did not pierce... the edge of the hat and the edge of the ornament.

Here I've colored the skin (E13, E11 and E00) and also the hair (E37 and E34).

I added some C1 around the edges of the white areas. I used RV69 for shadows in the red areas. These greens are really bright.. but they matched the bright greens in my DP.

I added the sentiment on the inside from JustRite's Large Fancy Holiday Sentiments

I paper pieced the oranament. All of the paper on this card is from the Bo Bunny 12" Collection Mistletoe. A fun little bow to top it off.

Snow Angels

I love snow in stamped images... not so much in real life, LOL! But on a card it's the perfect opportunity to add some fun embellishments! I used an Impression Obsession Large Square Shaker Pouch with the Coordinating Frame Die to frame my image and add some loose Polar White Flower Soft to float around in the pouch for SNOW!

Here's the little image all colored up! You can see I totally forgot the holly leaves on the lantern and had to go back and fill those in! Also, I left the skin colors out of the picture... those are E02 and E000.

Here's an up close. I added a bow, of course. And my most favorite snowflakes dies from IO for a little extra decoration! Finished card size is an A2.

Winters Butterfly

Monday brings a new post for Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps...
check out the PPRS Blog for more inspiration.
This is simply made... it's all about the perfect sentiment with lovely dies! I used paper from Bo Bunny's Winter Collection: Snow Day. The colors are ivory tones in the DP... so I used Neenah Classic Crest Natural White (ivory in color) as my base and neutral. Bright white paper would have really stood out... and not in a good way.  I used an Embossing Folder to add a little texture in one of the background layers. The beautiful snowflake die is from Impression Obsession. I added tape behind parts of the ivory snowflake so that the cut out pieces actually stayed in, giving it a little different look. All of the cut outs elements and piercing come from the actual die cut I used: Spellbinder's Resplendent Rectangles

I've been doing pockets recently on the inside. Only putting tape halfway, so the inside panel can be slipped in and out. I added a decorative border die cut as well.

A little sheer bow to help dress it up! You can see the beautiful detailed edging and piercing from Spellbinder's Resplendent Rectangles in the above picture.

CAS Candy Canes

A post for Serendipity Stamps!
Right now you can find all the Thanksgiving Stamps on sale at 20% off. The sale will be on going until November 28th.

So our challenge today for the Serendipity DT was to make a FLAT card, minimal in design but to keep it flat.... Ink and Paper only! Check out what the team came up with today:
Amy -  Miriam - Jeanne - Sue - Helen - Cathy - Pauline

So here's my ink and paper only card. Love this simple Candy Cane stamp paired up with the candy cane DP (from G45's Nutcracker Suite Collection)! I really hated not to add ribbon, pearls all the extra embellishments that we all love. But there are definite advantages when it comes to mailing out cards and keeping things simple if you are mass producing. I stepped out the coloring process for you below.

I stamped the Candy Canes in Memento Tuxedo Black. I used B0000 to add a soft background. I gently used the blender to soften the edge of the blue. Another reason to add that soft blue background is to help the WHITE areas of the candy cane stand out.

I added G07 to the leaves as shown above.

I crossed color families and used YG11 to finish the leaves. The reason for the switch in color families - I was trying to match the tone of the green in the background paper.

Next came the candy canes.. I left I white streak in the center of each red area and then gently dabbed a little R43 next to the white area.... note the white center highlight follows the bend around the top. I mimicked the coloring of the candy canes in the background paper.

I needed to have a significant difference in the green bow to help distinguish the bow from the green leaves. So I started with G99 to add some depth.

Crossing color families again... I filled in the remaining areas on the bow with YG63. Again I was trying to closely match the colors of the bows in the background paper. The bow got a little to dull and dark after the YG63.

So I brightened up the bow by adding the YG17 over the entire bow and then added some highlights by lifting some color using the YG11. This is the beauty of Copics... you can always change it up pretty easily!

Next, I colored the little berries with R27 and then gently dabbed with the very tip of the 0 Blender to add a little highlight. You have to have a very light touch with the blender in a small area with reds. It does not take much to make it bleed outside the lines in such a tiny area.

I taped my image back in the Nestie I used to cut it out... I used the inside edge to keep me straight as I added some piercing.

A simple sentiment that always works on the inside... Stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.

I added a little Viva Clear Gloss Pen over the small berries. The advantage of the Viva Pen versus Glossy Accents. The Viva Pen will keep the pearl like dimension. Glossy Accents will settle and dry flatter.

Finishing touch... a little of Rangers Crackle Accents over the Green bow to help it stand out a little bit. It was so hard to resist the foam tape on this!!! Finished card is 4 1/4' x 5".

The Impression Obsession Challenge today was the theme of Happy Fall Ya'll
As always you can play along with the team for a chance to win a Gift Certificate. You can find all the rules and details of how to enter on the Impression Obsession Blog.

Check out what the Ladies created for today:

I used three squares from the floral set Mixed 2 Square. and colored them using Copics.
Copics: YR18, YR12, Y28, YR27, YR21, E27, E23, 0 Blender
I used the Leaves Die Set to cut out a few fall leaves to add in the upper corner, popping them up with foam tape and bending them a little bit to add more dimension. After cutting them out I inked the edges with Distress Ink Frayed Burlap and also edged the majority of the card elements as well.

I added a liner on the inside and a simple sentiment. The finished card is A2 sized.

Happy Holidays - Simple Wreath

Today the Serendipity Design Team was given a photo to draw
inspiration from to base today's designs on. Serendipity is running a special right now...
Buy three, get the fourth free! This special runs through November 7, 2012 at Serendipity's Online Store.

So... as usual I may have strayed from the photo a bit and my thinking is that the pic is of a holiday decoration and I used a wreath, also a holiday decoration, in my card.
Check out the other post's from the team... I'm sure they were more on target with their themes!
Amy -  Miriam - Jeanne - Sue - Helen - Cathy - Pauline

I love this Bay Leaf Wreath! It looks like it would take a little while to color, but it actually goes pretty quick! I kept is simple and easy with a few easy layers using the Perfect Layers Rulers.
Here are the three greens I started with to color the leaves.
Here are the other Copics I used to finish it up.

I added a small Happy Holidays sentiment on the inside of the card with a leftover piece of the DP. Finished card is 5" square.

Gift Tag Ideas

The Impression Obsession Design Team was given the challenge theme of A Gift for You. So I did up a couple of quick gift tags. As always you can play along with us, check out the rules on the Impression Obsession Blog! Check out what the rest of the ladies created today:   Daniela Dobson - Dina Kowal - Jeanne Streiff - Kittie Caracciolo
TAG 1

I used the set Christmas Tree to stamp the tree twice. One I cut out with Spellbinder's Resplendent Rectangles and airbrushed a little B01 around the edges. I added the little Happy Holiday sentiment along the bottom edge.
I colored the tree using Copics and then popped up the second cut out tree up using Dimensional Silicone. I glued the tree panel to a folded tag made with the same die... this way you don't see the fold line.

 TAG 2
This little winter tag measures 3"x4".  The DP is from Bo Bunny's Mistletoe Collection. I used the Border Duo 2 Die along the bottom edge. The snowflakes are all stacked up with a Basic Grey Brad securing them together in the middle. I used the Snowflake from the Mitten Die Set and the Snowflake Die Set. I stamped the Merry Christmas in Versafine Onyx Black and aded a line of sparkle along the bottom edge using a Viva Holographic Glitter Liner.

TAG 3
I used a Viva Holographic Glitter Liner to add the sparkle along the hat's edge.
I stamped the Santa Head in Memento Tuxedo Black and used the pictured Copics to color him up. I created a folded oval little tag using Spellbinder's Oval Nesties. The striped paper is from Bo Bunny's Mistletoe Collection. I cut out Santa's Head and popped it up on an Action Wobble, so he wiggles and jiggles for fun!
